Introduction by the Chairman
I would like to introduce you to the Judd Parents' Association
(JPA) and tell you a little about who we are and what we do. The
JPA is made up of a group of enthusiastic parents who work together
to support the school in a variety of ways: fund-raising; creating
opportunities for the parents to meet socially, and organising rotas
for providing refreshments at School functions. The Committee comprises
a Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and two representatives
from each of the nine geographical areas covered by the Association.
Volunteers are crucial to the success of the JPA. Without the
support of the whole parent body, we would not be able to raise
the sums of money that we do for the School. You support us by turning
up to the events we organise and volunteering your time to make
cakes or serve refreshments. It isn't all about fund-raising though
and becoming involved in your local JPA Area will give you the opportunity
to keep in touch with what is happening in the School and enable
you to meet other parents socially.
We aim to enrich the lives of the students and support the development
of the School in any way that we can.

About the Judd Parents' Association (JPA)
The Aims
The Constitution of the JPA seeks to encourage parents to become
involved with the continued success of the School. As an Association
of parents, it provides the opportunity for everyone to support
the wide range of events which take place throughout the School
year. Whilst there is an element of much needed and appreciated
fund-raising across the JPA activities, it is also gives parents
a valuable opportunity to meet and enjoy an association with the
school and other parents. One of our most valued and important roles
is providing refreshments at the many and varied School functions.

Charitable Status
In Summer 2005, the JPA applied for, and successfully gained, Charitable
Status. Our Charity Registration No is 1110321. This means that
for every £1 donated to the JPA by a basic rate tax payer,
we can claim 28p from the Inland Revenue. In order to do this, we
are asking every member of the Association (all parents/guardians
of students at the School who pay tax) to complete a Gift Aid Declaration
Form and return it to the Treasurer, Carole Robinson , c/o The School
Office.

Fund Raising Success
During the last academic year, the JPA funded, in full, the
Doors and Screening for the School Room at a cost of £12,297.
Under a Matched Funding Scheme run by the British Schools Tennis
Association, the JPA contributed £300 towards tennis equipment.
At the end of the 2006 Summer Term, the Headmaster provided the
JPA with a 'wish list' from a number of departments. With JPA funds
totalling around £10,000 at the time, the Committee were able
to agree to expenditure during the Autumn term for a majority of
the items requested, with a provision that some departments produced
more accurate figures for resubmission in the Autumn 2006 term.
An order for a number of benches to be located in the school grounds
will be placed this term.
In previous years funds raised have been used towards such items
as
- Refurbishment of VI Form Common Room
- School Minibus
- Cricket Nets
- Computer Cabling
- Weather Station
- Overhead projectors for Language Classes
In addition, many departments have received direct contributions
and support:-
The Library, Music, World Challenge.
Under the guidance of the Headmaster, we look forward to continuing
to contribute to more projects this year which will enhance the
education of all students at the Judd School. With the launch of
the Development Fund in September 2006, we believe the JPA has been
given an opportunity to focus its fundraising efforts firmly on
items which will have an immediate impact on the educational lives
of the students.
Second Hand Uniform Shop
JPA volunteers are also responsible for running the hugely popular
Second Hand Uniform Shop which raises considerable funds through
the year and is a valuable, money saving resource for parents. The
shop is open on the first Saturday of the month between 9.30 - 11.30
am throughout the year, with the exception of August. Items from
the shop are on sale at various events throughout the year, including
the New Parents Evening in May.
Donations of second-hand uniform can be left at the shop when it
is open or given to the School Office.
The Structure
The Committee is comprised of a Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary,
Treasurer and a number of Area Representatives. There are currently
nine geographical areas, each of which has two Representatives (Representative
and Assistant Representative). The Committee meets regularly to
coordinate fundraising activities, organise rotas for providing
refreshments at School functions and discuss ideas for the future.
Area Representatives organise meetings in their own localities
and coordinate a network of parents who are willing and able to
support the activities of the JPA. They also communicate to parents
issues discussed at the main Committee meetings and encourage involvement
and debate which they feed back to the main Committee.
Details of Areas and Representatives
Your post code will determine which area you are part of
and, in the first instance, if you locate your code on the list
you will then be directed to an area. Please consult the contact
address list for the details of your Area Representative. Should
you be uncertain whom you should approach, please contact
Claire Restall (JPA Secretary) or Lynn Regan (Chairman).
The JPA Committee is always very interested to know what parents
feel and how they can support the Association and with this in mind
we have formulated a simple 'Parent Questionnaire' which we would
appreciate you taking the time to complete and return to the School
Office, marked for the attention of the Chairman. This will enable
us to identify the kinds of areas in which you are willing and able
to support us. As parents ourselves, we fully appreciate what busy
lives everyone leads and recognise that there are a number of ways,
other than being involved with the JPA, that parents give support
to the School. We have, therefore, inserted a question to reflect
this.
JPA Questionnaire
We would be very grateful if you could take time to fill
in our questionnaire and and return it to the School Office,
marked for the attention of your relevant Area
Representative.
