Sport at Judd
Welcome to the web pages of the Sports
Department.
The PE department has increased in size and PE is now
offered to A Level, after previously recording a 100%
pass rate at AS Level. The new Sports Hall opened in
September 2003, with new tennis courts and a Fitness
Suite, in addition to the Gymnasium.
The school believes in offering opportunities to all
and achieves excellence at the highest level. This is
shown by regular participation in extra-curricular activities
of more than 60% of years 7, 8 and 9. Every pupil is
welcome at every practice; inter-form competitions are
arranged in each year from 7 to 10 in Rugby, Cricket,
Basketball, Cross-country and Athletics.
Competitive inter-school fixtures are an important
aspect of the games programme at all levels. There is
a strong fixture list every Saturday and a high standard
is maintained leading to national competitions. At junior
level there are regular games for 'A' and 'B' teams,
so that the majority of pupils have a chance to represent
the School. There is also an extensive programme of
inter-form competitions, including one designed specifically
for those who are not school team players.
The main games are rugby football, cross-country running
and basketball during the winter months, and cricket,
tennis and athletics during the Summer Term. National
and international tours are offered in the major sports
with the 1st XV regularly touring Canada and the 1st
XI visiting Barbados. This year also sees the basketball
squad going to Greece and the cross country squad training
in Lanzarote. The open-air swimming pool is much used
during the summer. There are also opportunities for
canoeing, dance, sailing, squash, badminton, judo, golf,
table tennis and hockey at later stages in the school.
