The Judd School enjoyed great success at the recent Kent Secondary School Swimming Championships. (19/01/2008). Held at the Black Lion – Gillingham.

The intermediate (14-16yrs) medley relay team – Oliver Bate, Rohan Giles, James McAuliffe, and Xander Alari-Williams took first place. They dominated the final to win in a record event best performance time of 1min.59.63sec.

In the individual events – Xander Alari-Williams took gold in the 100m Breaststroke and Oliver Bate took silver in the 100m Backstroke – smashing his personal best in both the heats and final.

Earlier in the season the same team won gold in the Medley relay at the regional Kent/Surrey English Schools Relay Champs. This qualifies them, as 6th fastest, for the National Finals Competition to be held at Sheffield. In addition, the same four boys have also qualified for the Freestyle finals.

Kent Secondary Schools' Swimming Championships
Junior Team

Our novice Year 8 team of Matthew Chadwick, Charlie Carver, Cameron Hardman and Andrew Turner competed nobly against more experienced teams of Year 9 boys. In the individual events Matthew, Charlie and Cameron all achieved personal bests. Matthew's time of 1.21 in the 100m Freestyle and Charlie's time of 1.31 in the 100m Backstroke were especially promising. Sadly the team were disqualified in the Medley Relay, although more successful in the Freestyle relay. Individual members of the team achieved the equivalent of personal bests for their 50m legs, in particular Charlie with 33 seconds and Matthew with 35 seconds in their legs of the Freestyle relay. All team members are to be commended for their performance, especially considering their lack of experience.
