The Judd School entered 4 teams in the National Schools' Badminton
Championship qualifying rounds held at Mascalls School, Paddock
Wood on Monday 3rd December.
The tournament was split into to 2 events, Boys in years 7, 8 &9
and Boys in years 10/11
other schools who attended included Hayesbrook, Mascalls and Hugh
Christie.
In the older age group Judd dominated the event with both the "A"
and "B" teams reaching the final, with the "A"
team of David Fisher, Adam Wood, Tom Cockram and Nick Day only defeating
the "B" team of Joe Todman, Andrew Wilkinson, Peter Parry
and Jack Harber by the narrowest of margins which sees them progress
to the next round of the national event to take place early next
year.
The younger age group was a little more challenging, however it
was clear that the "A" team were by far the strongest
team with Matt Barnes, Ross Pilkington, George Bushell and James
Powderham proving too strong for the opposition and winning the
event without conceding a game. The second team made up of Josh
Brockman, Rob Eades, Will Smith and Joshua Reeves fond it more challenging
but despite this put up a credible performance to finish in 3rd
place.
The tournament was being used to select players to represent Tonbridge
and West Kent in the Kent youth Games in June 2008. Congratulations
to Matt Barns, Ross Pilkington, George Bushall and James Powderham
have been selected to represent Tonbridge and West Kent at the Youth
Games finals in June.
