Building a Vision
10 Years to Transform the school
Whilst much has been accomplished, there is much still
to do. The most pressing deficiencies identified by
students, parents and staff could be summed up in just
one word - SPACE.
Building phases are planned as follows:
Phase 1 (2006 - 2008/9)
A fully equipped new classroom building (the "MGB")
to house Mathematics and Geography will be constructed
on the site of the last hut. Cramped and overcrowded
classrooms will become a thing of the past, with a broad
range of learning styles enabled through a spacious,
light and IT-rich environment.
The building will make the maximum use of the available
space in all 3 dimensions. The guiding principles in
its design will be purpose, quality, value for money
and environmental impact. Apart from the demolished
hut no school building will be inaccessible during construction.
The appointed architects are ADP, who have an excellent
track record in the design of school buildings, including
two very successful projects at St Olaves Grammar School
in Orpington and the highly innovative infants' school
at Riverhead.
Phase 2 (2009 - 2010)
The classrooms in the Main School Building vacated
by Mathematics and Geography will be re-configures or
renovated to provide:
- A departmental suite for Economics (currently housed
in two bedrooms in Lawton's House and the last hut!)
- Increased room sizes for History
- Dedicated Study Facilities for the 300 strong sixth
form
- A new Reception and Office area adjacent to the
entrance hall
Phase 3 (2011- 2013)
New, more comfortable and more welcoming Changing Rooms
will be built closer to the playing fields, freeing
up space for development in the central area of the
school. A Multi-purpose Hall, able to accommodate the
whole school at one time, will transform corporate life
and offer increase opportunities in performance arts
and sport. It will also provide a far superior venue
for examinations.
Phase 4 (2014 - 2016)
Further Science Laboratories, a new Dining Room and
improved Staff Accommodation.
Throughout the entire phased programme of projects
the school will seek to acquire new land for additional
playing fields.
