Sixth Form Prospectus

At The Judd School, we offer courses leading to AS and A Level qualifications in a wide range of subjects. We aim to help you achieve a smooth transition from GCSE to AS and A Levels and to attain the qualifications that will open up the best opportunities for you afterwards. We look forward to helping those of you who are already at Judd, and others who wish to join us in the Sixth Form, make your choices wisely so that you can enjoy a happy and successful two years.

The Judd Sixth Form admits about 300 students each year to study at AS and A level. The vast majority of Judd students stay on at the end of Year 11 and are joined by a further 40 or so students from other schools. These include a number of girls admitted each year. In total we have approximately sixty girls across Years 12 & Y13.
This prospectus aims to give you information about the Sixth Form, and to give you an idea of what opportunities for your development are available at Judd.

Subject staff, Year 11 tutors and senior staff will also be available to discuss your options with you, so that you can choose the course that is best for you. There will be an Options Fair on Thursday 1st November from 4.00 p.m. till 6.00 p.m. mainly focused on external students interested in joining the Sixth Form. On Tuesday 13th November Judd Year 11 students are invited with their parents to our Options Evening.

The section on courses is designed to help you make the right choices for your Sixth Form studies. This year however, due to changing Examination Board syllabuses, some subjects have yet to be able to finalise their course choices. When details are available to us we will put them on this website.

The following subjects have finalised their specification – Art & Design, Business Studies, Classical Civilisation, , Economics, English Literature, English Literature & Language, Mathematics, Government & Politics, History, Latin, Music & Music Technology, Physical Education, Religious Studies.
The following subjects have yet to be able to finalise their specifications – Biology, Chemistry, French, Geography, German, Physics, Design & Technology.

Being a Specialist Music and Maths College, we are able to build on our existing strengths to provide an even richer musical curriculum and a wider ranging programme of extra-curricular activities. Specialist status is also enabling us to develop our use of ICT, both in Music and elsewhere. We have been invited to take on a second specialism from April 2008.

We value the enormous contribution Sixth Formers can make to the life of the whole school community, and encourage students to develop their talents and abilities through a wide range of activities, both in and out of school. We hope that you will find the Sixth Form an exciting and stimulating time, which will afford you the opportunities and develop the skills that will prepare you effectively for Higher Education and the world of work.
If you want advice or further information not provided in this prospectus, please contact Heads of Departments or the Sixth Form Office - we will be happy to help.
