German Department

OUTINGS , ACTIVITIES AND TRIPS

AS AND A2 classes will be attending a German Topic Day in London on Thursday 1st March 2007. The day will consist of lectures and workshops, conducted in German, covering many of the topics on the A Level syllabus, and providing an insight into many of the issues which affect Germans today, and their attitudes towards them.

We also hope to take a theatre trip to see Brecht's 'Caucasian Chalk Circle' at the National Theatre.

GERMAN FILM CLUB

This is available to any students from Yr 11 upwards, and to any staff who are interested! We show German Language films in a relaxed atmosphere after school, frequently to coincide with a Parents' Evening later that day. Sub-titles are in German! We aim to show at least two films per term.

HEUSENSTAMM EXCHANGE 2007

Our 34th exchange with the Adolf-Reichwein Gymnasium in Heusenstamm, near Frankfurt-am-Main, takes place from Wed. 28th March to Mon. 9th April. Although we had well over 20 students wishing to take part, only 11 boys from Germany were able to come here this year, so we shall be taking 11 Yr 10 boys, together with students from TGS, and their teacher, Mrs. Christine Hill. The partners are already in touch with each other, mostly by e-mail, and our stay in Germany will include one morning in school, a reception by the mayor, held in the council chamber in the castle, and a day's outing to the beautiful city of Heidelberg. Families also organise various activities for their guests.

Previous exchange visits have been very successful, with students gaining enormous
benefit from spending time with a German family and being immersed in the language for almost two weeks. Report will follow next term!

GERMAN CLUB
Thursday Lunchtimes L12 1 p.m.

This is a new venture, open to anyone wishing to practise his/her German and to learn more about German life and culture. It will be run by Frau Gerscher, Frau Zwanziger and Frau Neumüller. We are fortunate to have three native speakers on the staff!
