Meet the Economics Team
The Head of Department is Mr Stowell. He has taught at Judd
since 1988.
Mr Stowell went to school in Portsmouth and read Economics &
Politics at Loughborough University. He went onto study for a Master's
degree in International Relations at the University of Sussex and
completed a PGCE at the West Sussex Institute of Higher education.
Mr Stowell in another life was an ace icecream salesman and has
been known to anecdote on this at length.
Mr Stowell started his teaching career at Hazelwick School in Crawley
- a very large mixed comprehensive. He moved onto Lord Williams's
School in Thame (another large comprehensive) where he worked for
six years.
Amazingly Mr Stowell's teaching career spans four decades.
Mr Stowell has had work published in the TES, Economics, Teaching
Politics and other publications.
Mr Stowell has been an officer in the CCF since 1983 and has served
as the Contingent Commander since 1991.
Known nicknames: Stowelly and Mr Whippy. Boys do lack imagination!
Mr Ecclestone also joined the Judd School in 1988 to make
up the other half of the dream team. Mr Ecclestone read Economics
at Salford and gained a PGCE at the University of London entering
teaching in his late thirties. He worked at Simon Langton School
for Boys in Canterbury before moving to Judd.
Mr Ecclestone lives in his country estate fondly known as "Ecclestone
Acres". He is often found to be reminiscing about the state
of his sheep and fences. Not bad for a lad from Brum!
Mr Ecclestone has a large family and maintains his own welfare
state. Hence his choice of outfitter is Oxfam. He is always a candidate
for the worst dressed teacher award although he now looks quite
distinguished as he sports a grey beard.
Mr Ecclestone has a Master's degree from the University of London
in Economics Education. He has lectured for many years with the
Open University and is also a very experienced examiner with Edexcel.
Mr Ecclestone has responsibility in school for inducting mature
applicant teachers through the graduate teaching programme.
Known nicknames: Red Roy; EWOC (something to do with Star Wars)
Mr Sharkey joined the Judd School on his first teaching
appointment in 2003 having graduated from the University of Hull
and having gained a PGCE at the University of London.
Mr Sharkey vies for the title of tallest member of staff having
eaten a lot of weetabix as a child.
Mr Sharkey has taken charge of the World Challenge programme in
school and has taken pupils around the globe and he is looking forward
to leading a party to Venezuela in 2008.
Mr Sharkey has taken on responsibility for a junior rugby team
and has also recently been appointed Head of year 7.
Mr Sharkey holds the distinction of having to work even longer
for his pension than when he first started teaching as the retirement
age has increased to 65 for new entrants. What a lucky chap.
Known nickname: Sharkey (another triumph of imagination)
